Aamir Khan’s directorial debut `Taare Zameen Par’ swept the 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards with the film bagging the honours for its director, lead actor, story writer and lyricist.
The film, which received plaudits from critics and audiences for its sensitive portrayal of a young boy attempting to deal with learning disability, walked away with the Best Film Award at the ceremony.
However Aamir, in keeping with his stand of not attending film award ceremonies, stayed away this time as well. He was adjudged Best Director for ‘Taare Zameen Par’.
The film’s 11 years old star Darsheel Safary won the Critics Award for the Best Male Performance for his role as the protagonist Ishaan Awasthi. Writer Amol Gupte walked away with the Best Story Award.
Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor received the Lifetime Achievement Award while his son Ranbir bagged the Best Newcomer Award for his debut in `Saawariya’. Konkona Sen Sharma and Irrfan Khan were adjudged Best Supporting Actor in the male and female categories for their portrayal of a romantic couple in `Life in a Metro’.
Tabu won the Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor for her performance in romantic comedy `Cheeni Kum’.
Debutante and model Deepika Padukone received the Fresh Face Award for her performance in the hit `Om Shanti Om’. Music composer A R Rehman added one more trophy to his count winning the Best Music Director for his score for the multi-starrer `Guru’.
